Clarity to build trust in biometrics
From the fingerprint used to enter a workplace, to the facial recognition used at international borders or to keep bad actors out of retail stores, biometrics have become an integral part of our digital and physical lives. Popular media love biometrics too but often present a futurist view that does not reflect reality. Much confusion has arisen over the years and the Biometrics Institute aims to provide clarity on these technologies and untangle some of the confusion. As with all security technology, biometrics are not perfect and need careful management to ensure they are used to serve us humans rather than exploit us.
Our Biometrics Explained resources offer balanced, fact-based insights into how these systems work, and their impact on society. By fostering transparency and understanding, we can ensure that biometrics are used responsibly and for the benefit of all.
We encourage individuals and organisations to reference these resources which have been created by a diverse stakeholder community of experts providing a balanced view.
