ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This half-day workshop will take place alongside the Biometrics Institute Congress. This satellite workshop will focus on steps that government and private sector organisations should take when incorporating facial recognition into their operations.

The workshop will offer guidance on how to utilise test results, specifically those available from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), to select an algorithm that is suitable for your use case(s) and complies with any mandated performance levels. This will include discussion of various algorithms’ resiliency to demographic variations.

It will also offer recommendations on policies and documentation necessary for the following use cases:

  • Remote identity verification
  • Facility access control
  • Real-time surveillance
  • Forensic analysis

This will include discussion of legal and ethical obligations in different scenarios.

Finally, guidance will be offered on the levels of human intervention needed in different use cases and the proper training for these operators, as well as quality assurance practices to establish competency and demonstrate continued proficiency.

WORKSHOP PRESENTER

Richard Vorder Bruegge
Retired in 2024, Richard was Chief Image Advisor at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where he was responsible for identifying and developing image and video technologies for both investigative and forensic applications.
