MEETING OUTLINE
The Biometrics Institute aims to deliver content to its members in a timely and concise format. Our online On the Pulse Conversations allow our members to connect globally and discuss important topics as and when the conversation is most needed.
FRT continues to dominate the headlines and popular media, warning of data protection and deepfake concerns despite ongoing regulatory work, standards development and advances in testing methods (e.g. PAD, IAD, liveness). At the same time, regulators have put a particular emphasis on the need to provide notice and seek consent when biometric data is being collected (Australian Review Tribunal ruling about retail use of biometrics, see paragraph 237).
The discussion is underpinned by the Biometrics Institute’s new guidance, Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) in Public Places: Key Questions Before You Start, which is designed to help form a ‘go/no-go’ decision right at the start when considering such technology. They focus on crucial policy and procedure issues before even considering the technical questions for responsible FRT use, as outlined in the Biometrics Institute’s Three Laws of Biometrics.
Speakers include:
- Terry Aulich, Head of Privacy & Policy Expert Group, Biometrics Institute
- Roger Baldwin, Advisory Council Member, Biometrics Institute
- Daniyal Chughtai, CTO, Facia
- Brett Feldon, Head of Digital Identity Group, Biometrics Institute
- Michael Matheson, Biometrics Institute Member
