MEETING OUTLINE
The Biometrics Institute aims to deliver content to its members in a timely and concise format. Our online On the Pulse Conversations allow our members to connect globally and discuss important topics as and when the conversation is most needed.
Biometric watchlists
Over the past years commercial biometric watchlists have been created and used for example by businesses to protect themselves from crime. Some of these uses have been the subject of lawsuits across multiple jurisdictions. Risks are now amplified by AI-enhanced analytics and biometrics. The Biometrics Institute Privacy Expert Group and its broader membership have been discussing the development of guidance on watchlists in relation to biometrics over the past year but it has raised more questions than provided answers.
What will you learn from this conversation?
This conversation will invite members, stakeholders and data protection offices to come together to update their knowledge on biometric watchlists, what the private sector is already doing, whether this requires more governance or whether it should not be used at all.
- Understand the relationship between private and public sectors in terms of collection, management and use of personal data
- Gain insights into the positives of watchlist use and their risks
- Learn about consent and awareness of being on a watchlist
- Explore unbiased and experienced human oversight for decision-making
Speakers include:
- Terry Aulich, Head of Privacy & Policy Expert Group, Biometrics Institute
- Roger Baldwin, Advisory Council Member, Biometrics Institute
- Brett Feldon, Head of Digital Identity Group, Biometrics Institute
Key documents for consideration:
